During the renovation of The Cemetery Lodge I collected objects that represent aspects of events in my life and in the life of the building. These include pieces of discovered wallpaper, shards of china dug up in the garden, old newspapers and trinkets found when clearing rooms. I have stored these in showcases as a catalogue of specimens of equal merit, avoiding grouping them according to age or value or any other criteria.
Our memories are not structured hierarchically or chronologically and in our minds we are free to associate and re-layer them as our imagination takes us. I have used my collection of treasures to continue to explore and develop themes that have preoccupied me in previous work: the consequences of bringing objects of different value or age on to the same level; the building up of layers to create new associations; and the impact of the invisible on the visible.
